The majority of people here will agree with me when I say that Mario is an excellent platformer but the question is what makes him so successful? What makes his games so great that you can't stop playing them?
I guess when he reached Icon status he never really lost his magic.
The true hypocrite is the one who ceases to perceive his deception, the one who lies with sincerity
Actually, if the music sucks, I won't play the game. The tunes are half the reason Mario games are so fun. That, and Nintendo focuses on him so much that they practically make everyone love hiM OR DIE IN A HOLE AND LOSE A LIFE!
*insert lost-life fanfare here*

Nintendo focuses mainly on child-friendly games, and the Mario series focuses real heavily at being child-friendly. The Sonic games used to be child-friendly in the past, but the most recent Sonic games have gotten E10+ ratings, due to some material that really isn't suitable for younger people (animated blood, death references, etc.).
