Ok I was wondering if 2 people that had a mutual friend on CoD WaW could add each other. (like on Mkwii)

You may be able to add that person if in a private room (Before the match begins) but I'm not 100% sure, I have never added anyone that way on WaW.

EDIT: Try it out. Go to your friend roster while in a private room. Or maybe even try clicking on their name and see if it gives you any option to add them
