Spanish teacher not allowing me to bring my dictionary anymore?
I don't understand. For those of you that think I'm some kind of cheater, I NEVER used this on a quiz. In fact, why would I? I know Spanish well enough to be able to get 97+ on every quiz without it. As a matter of fact, I take Spanish as an interest, not as a class. My class only knows "ir + a + infinitive", present progressive, present indicative, preterite (VERY few irregulars, not the tough ones), and sentirse. Me however, I know every single tense without some irregulars for some tenses, but I memorized many of the horrific preterite irregulars and some irregulars from the future, present subjunctive, and other tenses. I even know the imperative, and the compound tenses formed by haber.
I bought this Spanish dictionary that's so good, it costs $19. This is where I learned a lot of Spanish too as well as used this as reference. My teacher, "apparently" has a problem with me knowing extra stuff. I don't get it. Many other teachers are so happy with my Spanish. My former Spanish teacher was telling the vice principal how I spoke almost like a native speaker. Except for a few others, many teachers are actually proud of me. However "some" teachers have a problem with it. Students were teasing me for taking Spanish as an interest, and carrying around a dictionary. They thought it was so odd that I'm bringing a "Spanish Dictionary" to class. Many students came up to me and said, "Why do you have a Spanish dictionary?"
I will admit that I used it some times when I shouldn't have like in other classes. But I have stopped doing that now. I lost my Spanish dictionary for a day and then my Spanish teacher comes in with it. I was very surprised. I looked really hard for it in school, and then all of a sudden she comes in holding it, but makes me promise that I won't bring it ever to school again. If a teacher sees me with it, they take it away from me with no return. WHAT???????????? This is crazy! She said it was disrupting my learning in eighth grade, but not anymore! I stopped using it in other classes!
As you can see, I am very frustrated right now. Why do people have a problem with my strong interest in Spanish? Students are teasing me, but I didn't know that it would go so extreme that she won't let me bring it to SCHOOL, not just class anymore. I can't even bring it to lunch where I use it as a reference when I need to. I know I can use it at home, but the point of me buying one was because I practice speaking Spanish in school, I need to use this as a reference if I need to know a word, or need to check an irregular conjugation. I'm not native at it, and compared to Spanish speakers, I'm still considered a three-year old. I just know a lot more than students, but definitely not enough to speak like a native speaker without a dictionary!
What do I do? This is crazy and ridiculous what she is doing. In addition, she didn't even recommend me for Honors Spanish because it's "too hard". Yeah OHkay!!! Other students are getting into it, and not me! I bet it would be easy since I have already learned a lot of Spanish that is taught next year and throughout high school.

I'm a spanish speaker. How about trying to ask her why she is doing this. My sister is taking spanish, and she said that the teacher was MOST LIKELY jealous of her. My sister knows more spanish than the teacher!! Some teachers are like this, they get worried that their students will learn more than them. Or maybe your teacher THINKS that you sneak into your dictionary during tests. Ask her why.

Imo, I think its awesome how you have a strong interest in Spanish. She probably does think that you're cheating on tests. You could try to explain to her that your not, or if she doesn't believe you, try explaining to the principal or vice-principal. They might tell the teacher to let you bring it. This is coming from a homeschooler but I think my advice is reasonable.

There's nothing wrong with taking an interest in Spanish, or any other language. I take interest in Japanese, Spanish, and Hungarian, and of cource I get a few odd glanses whenever I speak it or write it or such, but I don't let it stop me from what I like. Maybe they're just jealous of your ability to catch on to the language and speak it so fluently. The teacher may just not like it for various reasons.
It seems that your Spanish teacher is one of the only teachers that doesn't appreciate it. It seems to me that your other teachers think it's just great that youer learning a foreign language so well, and that you can go abouve and beyond. Your Spanish teacher may think that youer cheating with the dictionary, because you know the language so well. She may also not want you to go ahead, because she/he/umm... may feel that other students would feel left in the dust. I couldn't really imagine why she'd hate it.. If I were her, I'd be really happy that you take an interest in my class and that youer doing so well.
Try talking to her about why she hates your dictionary so much. See if you can find out why, and then try to compromice with her. Perhaps she's thinking it's disrupting your classes because she may think that youer paying so much attention to the dictionary, that youer not paying any attention to classwork and such. Prove to her youer not.
If she's still being unfair or unreasonable about it, talk to the other teachers for some background information, to see if they know anything elce about that. If they're not helpful enough or anything, talk to the prinsiple and see what he/she/it/hairymonster says about it, and see if he'd be able to do anything about it.
And as for the honours class, and you know that much, you should really talk to her. If she's just holding you from it because youer highly skilled in Spanish, that's not right. Teachers shouldn't deprive students from education, they should challenge you to learn more. You should be up there if you know that much.
Hope this helped, and good luck :3

They say that's all I "focus" on. But it's stupid that they won't even allow it in lunch or a recreational area!

Some or should I say, ALL teachers has problems with kids. At least one each year. -o- So not to be meen or anything, perhaps you are a overachiever? Well, teachers or actually all people need to deal with who you really are. I do not see why they don't like you doing a great job. The spanish teacher should actually be HAPPY that she raised you as a wonderful spanish speaker. Yes, some students ARE teasing and making fun of nerds, loners, emos, and such. The people who make fun of them will go live in the streets, while for the people who GET teased will be successful in life or maybe even famous. It's true, and it happens.

Okay first of all your teacher is stealing property that is actually yours, that is illegal. I would tell a teacher you loved who does love you back, or even the principal. Yes, it will cause drama, but it is bound to get your stolen book back. Well if you are only focusing in spanish and failing in the other class, yes you need to stop reading that book. But if you are not...that is not considered of the book being disruptive at all. You are putting more intelligence to your brain which is really good.

Like I said, IGNORE THE OTHER TEASERS ! No offense, but don't bring anything that is considered "nerdy" from the people in your school, cause you will get teased non-stop and you will get in a rage and bad things happen. (I had witnessed this to a friend of myn who is considered to be a loner. D=) So do not bring it to school anymore, leave it home and study there. Don't worry you will overcome and be an amazing spanish speaker when you are an adult. =)

Yes, you have some haters, everyone has haters so you have to deal with it sadly. So, your spanish teacher is JEALOUS of you. Which is pretty amazing, I would be proud that the teacher hates me because I know more than her/him. xp And if you really want to get into the program just either talk to your teacher in a calm voice and persuade her/him, to let you be in the program. If not, just tell everything to the principal/parents.
Good luck of fixing your problem! (Yeah, these words are unexpected from a 13-year old in 8th grade xD) Sorry for the so much reading by the way.
