Don't know exactly, but I think the _d files are used in multiplayer races.

In a similar manner, character files that end with _4 are used in multiplayer as well.

Yes, it's that.
Every course has a _d file, and some are automatically generated (such as the draw_demo_d one and the old_mario_gc_b_d one, which have no difference to the normal ones as they're unused anyway).
factory_course_d has no Toads in the audience, for example.

Hum yeah I figured out them too. Adding ending_demo and a general rule: _d for multiplayer

So all i have to do is just rename custom track downloads with the correct course name it should replace and put it in the "my stuff folder". if my sd card doesn't have a my stuff folder, then where should i put the files?

Then create a My Stuff folder (SD/mkwii/My Stuff)
