The anser is very simple.

Nintendo has no way of knowing if you disconnected for a legitimate reason (i.e. ****ty net), or because you knew you were gonna lose the race, and quit to avoid taking a ratings loss.

Because of this they *have* to punish you for a d/c, otherwise all the pathetic cheaters out there would just quit every time they werent going to win, making it next to impossible to have good fair races.

I know the d/c penalty sucks, but trust me, without it it would be WAY worse.

If you didnt lose points for disconnects, then people would just quit without any punishment, when losing. That would suck. It would be like some of the other WiFi games for DS, that suck online because people just quit.

idk about that but they punish u with worse losing points so that u will try and win the next race
i think nintendo wants to motivate u to keep playing the game untill u get back your vr
so they make u lose more so u spend more time playing the game :)

i take the race anyways cause i think that if i quit i would lose more VR than comming 2nd last or 3rd last
