does anyone know how to dodge blue shells?
my brother said it was something to do with mushrooms.
is that right?

Yes keep a mushroom and when it is about to strike use the mushroom and you should be safe :)

i think u can also drift and use boost pads but its just that much harder.

You can avoid the Blue Shells with a mushroom, use the mushroom just before the Blue Shell strikes =)

Dodging is indeed possible, but it's very situational. Basically, I feel it wouldn't help you even if you knew how to do it. First place can't get mushrooms, although that depends on the amount of players. I'm fairly sure you can get one in a 12 player game, but it's extremely rare (even more so than getting a red shell in first place). If you don't have one already from picking up an item box at a lower place position, then you're dead. There's also the potential risk of POW and Lightning removing your saved up Mushroom as well. Not saying it's not worth learning how to dodge them, but you usually won't have the chance to. If you are lucky enough to have everything fall into place so you can evade one, then more power to you.
