Thoughts on the straight edge philosophy & lifestyle?

Here is the deal If you don't know or follow the straight edge life style. Basically you must make a lifetime commitment to refrain from drinking alcohol, using tobacco products, and taking recreational drugs. Most of my friends and family members don't approve of my lifestyle at all and all they do is party all night long. Being straight edge is a very smart and healthy life and I like the philosophy of it. Being Straight Edge is perhaps the best thing you can do in you're young lives. You will live to be much older then the average age span and you will be more happier. Ever since I've became Straight Edge my life has turned for the better and I'm much happier and kinder then I was before. I feel good knowing that I will out live most of friends in live and that I will live a clean life. So what are you thoughts on being Straight Edge? Are you against it? Or are you for? Don't be afraid to post you're opinion because there is no wrong answer here.

I think if people only ever get high on life itself that's really great. And no doubt they'd reap the benefits like those which you stated....but I personally couldn't do it. I need a little kick from other sources. =)

Can you specify the type of recreational drug, in some instances, caffine or Vitamin K is considered that type of drug.

As for tobacco or alcohol, even when I reach legal age to do both, I'm not touching that stuff, I do want better health for a better life. Hard drugs disgust me and I have no interest in what they can do for me.

C affine and Vitamin K aren't considered.

I wouldn't feel good to know that. Yay, you get to watch everyone around you die. Sounds like fun.

But in the long run you're right, the straight edge lifestyle is smart.

I never really understood the whole "straightedge" thing... It's really quite the commitment.. and I know I couldn't do it..

But the way I see it.. you only live once! You got to live a little!

I just don't like when the non-drinking people and/or people that have "never" done drugs feel they are superior

But most people on this forum are kids. So, they are much more likely to say they think the "straightedge" lifestyle is great.

^^this is very true

OH. and I guess I didn't say this.. but I don't really see anything wrong with occasional drinking and occasional usage of some drugs. Done in moderation it's harmless.

Besides sounding like the back of a brochure, it sounds fine to me, but I wouldn't choose it for myself.

Up at my college I certainly had a couple of beers here and there. The only time I really got wasted was at the end-of-the-year party, and I went with a large group of friends, two of whom were not drinking. As long as you have someone watching your back and you're responsible about it, there's no reason you can't have a good time.

If, on the other hand, you just want to avoid any such association, the more power to you. It's a personal choice.

The only thing I touch out of that is the occasional beer. I drink in very limited quantities, though. I did sporadically smoke weed when I was a confused teenager, but I'm never touching that stuff anymore.

I used to be drunk some times througout the year, but if I go out now I always make sure it doesn't happen. And it works, I'm never really drunk anymore, tipsy at most.

Drugs and tobacco are things I have never touched in my life, altough I had an offer from a friend once. I just swore to never touch any of that.
