I understand, but every time there is a debate like this, the religious people fail to provide any proof or reasoning for anything they say. So I'm just wondering :p.

Atheist. Don't really feel like explaining why, but seriously. I see God and whatever as something like Santa (horrible analogy). People say,"Oh, God is watching you," mainly to make you stop doing inappropriate things or whatever. I see it more as an excuse, and plus, the stories in Bible are just sometimes downright illogical. Of course, it's Christ, and apparently he can do anything. However, I don't say I'm atheist so I can do whatever "evil" things I want; I'm still a good and kind-hearted person. All I'm saying is that I don't think God exists.

Chances are, I made some flaws in my statement. I'm tired and not the one to argue over things. -yawns-

Not everything has to be scientifically proven, thus giving the name "supernatural" that which can't be explained. There are few documented medical miracles that can't be explained, they happen. Do I go to church or read the bible? No, just stating that religion may not be completely false. It gives hope.

Let's say I was a human(I'm an alien btw) just born on a lush desert(oxymoron alert) island in the middle of the ocean with no one around and my parents both died at birth.

I grow up, learn to live and survive on the island, and never meet another human. I learn that stepping on stingrays = BAD because of pain receptors in my feet. I learn that by not eating I get hungry. I learn that staring into the sun is not good.

I learn these things from my observations that I make with my senses, sight, smell, touch, hearing and so on.

I wonder about things, like what causes lightning, or "why does water fall on my head when sky get dark?"(rainstorm for those lacking brain cells). I cannot explain these things through scientific reasoning because I only get about 80 years to live, and that's not enough time on my own to figure out ways to learn what causes these things(technology is passed on through generations, which is why we know what we know today and are not still cavemen). So instead I make up beliefs that explain these things. Maybe there are other humans that make sky go boom, or lightning bolts appear. This is natural speculation.

When I was born on the island, grew up, and died, I never heard of the Christian religion, or any other established religion. I had no contact with other people.

My point is, religions are formed by many cultures and ideas that merge together. They are passed on through generations. At this day and age however, we can explain much more through application of the scientific process and documentation of our findings. There are still questions that remain unanswered, but in a few hundred years, given that we survive and we continue at the current rate of technological advance, we may have those answers(only to unlock more questions lol).

Excellent post.

EDIT: I'm a weak atheist.

I have no religion at all. Judging by the things I read in the news, I sometimes think people use their religious beliefs as a reason to bully others. I do not want any part of that.

I'm happy just the way I am, and I'm perfectly OK with other people following their own beliefs... as long as they're not trying to force their beliefs on me.
