What are your views on this?

As we all know, Garchomp was target of great controversy for being initially included in the OU tier.

After months of suspect testing this Pokemon, and after extensive voting, the members of Smogon decided to bring this Pokemon to the Uber environment. This same Garchomp which exposed the greatest threats to all teams, being rather bulky, specially with the Yache Berry attached, it could definitely turn the tables.

What will be of the standard metagame, now that this big threat is out?

If you ask me, rest assured Heatran will have a lot of more openings now, Garchomp could inflict some serious damage on it.
Not to mention its HP Ice will become HP Ground in the next months.

Does this mean we can't use Garchomp anymore or does it mean he's been downgraded?

He's been upgraded, the OU tier is the topmost accepted tier for standard play, but he went to the Uber tier.

In a nutshell, Garchomp is now included in the group of those Pokemon such as Rayquaza, Giratina, Mewtwo, etc etc.

It's definitely gonna shape stuff another way now.

Agreed. Teams no longer feel limiting because before you'd be almost forced to add a Steel-type to resist a Scarfchomp's Outrage. Teams may get a little bit more creative, which is great for this game.

Haha, I can already imagine the Japanese laughing out loud at this situation, a little like Smogon did when they decided to ban Swords Dancing Heracross.

I mean, an environment with Garchomp is difficult, but without it, many new threats arise, one of them as I said, Heatran.

So he's technically considered a lengendary? That's a little overboard if you ask me.

I'd much rather face a Tran than a Chomp.

These "new threats" have been in the metagame for a while, and have plenty of counters, however I do agree that some will rise to become the "new stars" of this metagame.

There are legends that are OU, and normal Pokémon that are Uber *cough*Wobbuffet*cough*. If you've ever been swept by a Garchomp, which undoubtedly most people have, you wouldn't think this decision so "ridiculous" or "overboard".

I mean, he was undoubtely one of the greatest forces in OU, and I'm not questioning Smogon's suspect tests and extensive research, but for Uber? He stands a good chance against some, but any Scarfed variant will most likely crush it.

He's not super fast too, Kyogre's Ice Beam can OHKO Yached Chomp and such...

I honestly can't fit him anywhere by now x_X

Then I'm sure you couldn't find a place for Rayquaza in Ubers either, then, from that logic?

Also, the basic idea of Chomp going Uber is the same as Wobbuffet's: he guarantees at least 1 KO, and usually dishes out more, and the metagame revoled around him much too much (i.e. feeling forced to put a Steel type in your team to resist Outrage). There were few Pokémon indeed that could switch in to Chomp and KO it (the definition of a "counter"), much of it was revenge-killing.

I never kept up with the times on Smogon, but lol @ this. I can just see the threads on Smogon about le Chomp being banned...

and now I will have to rename all my pokemon to something other than Garchomp. =(
