Seeing as how I love to do double battling alot more than single battling due to the fact that double battling has alot more possibilities for some underused Pokemon to actually be used in combat among other things, I figured a thread related to nothing but double battles might be useful for gaining some more insight to it and required tactics.
»Some of the basics to double battling I believe, is for your team to revolve around a strategy, such as weather usage. Other basics would be moves which become more effective when used in doubles battles as opposed to singles, such as Protect and Fakeout.
»Just as basic is the usage of move combinations with Pokemon abilities, such as a Pokemon using Earthquake, while having an ally Pokemon with Levitate, thereby not being effected by Earthquake and hitting only both the opponent's Pokemon.
»There are also moves in double battles which can strike all Pokemon at once, or just the opposing trainers Pokemon. Examples of these would be Lava Plume, which deals damage to all Pokemon on the field, and Heatwave, which deals damage to both opposing Pokemon. There's even moves which help only your team such as: Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard, and Tailwind.
»What I'd like to see is some lists of certain reliable strategies or Pokemon combinations you guys like to use in doubles battles, so everyone can have an idea of tactics to try in their own doubles battles or know what they might come to expect from an opponent at times.
Attacks Which Affect The Oppponent's, Allies, or All Pokemon On The Field.
Moves that attack or affect ONLY the opponent’s Pokemon:
Spoiler
Acid, Bubble, Captivate, Dark Void, Eruption, Growl, Heal Block, Heat Wave, Icy Wind, Hyper Voice, Leer, Muddy Water, Powder Snow, Razor Wind, Rock Slide, Spikes, Stealth Rock, String Shot, Sweet Scent, Swift, Tailwhip, Toxic Spikes, Twister, Water Spout
Moves which attack or affect ALL Pokemon on the field:
»Protect+Explosion or a Ghost type+Explosion.
»Dry Skin/Water Absorb ability+Rain Dance+Surf.
»Swagger+a speedy Physical based Pokemon wielding Persim berry or Purugly abuse. Also a Tangled Feet ability Pokemon.
»Gastro Acid+ a Pokemon like Regigigas or Slaking for ridding them of their useless abilities.
»Follow me+ a Pokemon that likes stat boosters like Swords Dance or Dragon Dance.
»Dugtrio and his Arena Trap ability+ a Perish Song User such as Celebi and Misdreavus.
»A basic duo of Plusle and Minun because of their abilities.
»Dual Intimidate ability Pokemon on an opposing team's physical based Pokemon on the field.
There's much more moves and combinations to use in doubles battles, but before I add more of those. I'd like to hear what everyone else has to offer for information. I'd love to make some sort of list of all these strategies that are possible, in this thread.
Well, I'm going to clean this up more later (half asleep atm), but for now I just wanted to get this posted and out there, and get some more thoughts rolling with it. Eventually I want to organize it into sections for just the move combinations talk themselves, a list of moves that effect only your team for benefits, moves which only hit both the opponent pokemon's team, moves which hit all pokemon on the field, as well as other things added from other users too if possible. Then use all the fancy fonts and coloring to seperate the sections and such with titles for them to make the strategy sections easier to jump to etc.
It's afterall...a work in progress to me, something I've wanted to do for awhile now :s
Oookay.
Sunny Day thing actually made me think, thats a pretty awesome idea, and I actually plan to test that.
Same idea could go with Rain Dance and Water Absorb, but without the flash fire boosting iirc.
But, that team was poorly made, Infernape leads should either have fake out or earthquake, and it could have stopped the set-up.
In competitive climax's, you need to be prepared to have a Fake Out lead against you every single time, so Lucario+Gallade+Dragonite become amazing leads as I recall.
Plusle+ Minun lol, 295 raised by half, again, its not that much at all, giving around 350, the standard base stat of an OU.
Area Trap Dugtrio and Perish Song Celebi is a good idea, but Gastro Acid Slaking+Regigigas is one of the best ideas.
You need to be creative in doubles, otherwise your predicted within ease.
The best leads for doubles imo Smeargle @ Choice Scarf
~Dark Void
~team suiter
~team suiter
~team suiter
Ambipom @Life Orb/Silk Scarf
~ Fake Out
~ Ice Punch
~ Double Hit
~ U-Turn
Ah there we go, thanks for the added input Alex.
The fire idea is one that I'm working on using myself, I'm about halfway there myself with a full team. I probably should have listed the Water Absorb idea too, I was thinking of my usage of Toxicroak with Dry Skin like I had been doing in doubles is why I thought of that instead of Water Absorb. I agree with the Infernape lead, Fake Out is ALWAYS a vital tool to have, especially in the Doubles environment. The anti Fake Out Poke' are welcomed additions to a team, where already knowing Fake Out is a common sight can benefit you.
I mainly listed Plusle and Minun just because I've encountered someone once on PBR who did that, and seen a few on youtube as well...matter of fact I think I'll one to link...not something very very competetive, but if one is looking for a fun pair to play with, there ya go...
Smeargle is deffinately a good choice. Dark Void is a very common encounter with it, as well as Fake Out. Team usage moves could also include a weather inducing move. I believe I've also seen some people put Focus Sash on it.
Ambipom is another common sight too. Its own usage of Fake Out is just awesome, deffinately a good addition to doubles.
I think my next step I'd like to get all the moves that have different effects within the Doubles Environment. I know sometimes I space out and I'm going wait...does this hit all or one of them?
A Pressure+Intimidate duo lead is kinda nice, a friend of mine who plays doubles a lot uses that strategy. His leads are usually comprised of a Weavile/Aerodactyl and Salamence.
I would say Swagger+Tangled Feet, but the only decent user of Tangled Feet is Pidgeot, but I guess if you incorporate a Banded moveset on the bird, it would be okay. Tangled Feet adds a 50% chance of moves missing, so it's still nice.
Tailwind is also nice, and can be used by either Suicune or Pidgeot (damn, I like this bird today for some reason). Have a nice, bulky Choice attacker out after this, and you'll be putting dents everywhere. And since it remains after switching, you can put in something like a SpecsLucario to mess something up.

I like the Swagger+Tangled Feet idea Chomuk, but yeah, Pidgeot is the only one who can really put it to okay usage.
On a side note, I have re-organized the information a bit, and added a section for the moves which gain different effects on all, the opponents, or an allies Pokemon in battle.
Agreed Farore XD. It's easy to get into that situation to use. You can use Earthquake, swap out to a Levitate/Flying Pokemon. Or not even having to do that and just sit and protect.

yeah protect
or magnet rise ;3
oh oh!
I also like [Water move]+Water Absorb
I had a Vaporeon and a Dragonite
I would have Dragonite use aqua tail on vaporeon so he could recover HP
My vaporeon had a life orb so he needed that extra HP boost ;O
I don't need fancy smudging, glowy circles, or topaz filters. I have my OWN style.
Back in the Advanced Generation in Netbattle I used to use that Flash Fire + Sunny Day combo.
Only I used houndoom to set up Sunny Day and Exeggutor to use Hidden Power Fire on Houndoom. Exeggutor would also benefit from the Sun with Chlorphyll. It would sometimes work....
Do you realize if you were to take that lettuce, dry it, and roll it, and smoke it.
You smoke your lettuce, you're gonna end up with similar problems than if you were smoking tobacco.
It's not the nicotine that kills! It's the smoooke! The smoooke. Cancer: it's the smoke. Heart disease: it's the smoke. Respiratory disease: it's the smoooke!
It's the, it's the inhalation, it's the smooooke, the smoooke.
