Well, I'm having trouble with this fight in Platinum (battle name in spoiler)
Spoiler
and I'm wondering what kind of level should I raise my Pokemon to? I was thinking about level 50, but could anyone else else who isn't a n00b like me give a rough idea of what kind of level pokemon it would take to beat him? Thanks.

I don't have Platinum, so I can't really say much, but I suggest getting them as high as you can, the higher the level, the better.

I beat him with a level 45 team.

Train against pokes in the area outside the torn world portal.

I'm training against them right now as I type actually. I got through the first 2 Pokemon of his ok-ish, but his Gyarados screwed me up, so I'm getting a lightning-type Pokemon.

Gyrados is part flying, so it will be better off if he gets an electric type pokemon.

I beat him with pokemon high 40's it wud be good for you to get an electric type pokemon but make sure it has high sp attk that way moves like thunder and thunderbolt are even stronger and you'll most likely take his garados out in a couple of hits also try and stock up on the best Pots you can get and if you can get some revives

Your Pokemon should be at lease lvl 40+ or up to fight Cyris...

I Prefer you have a eletric type to start off the fight (like Richu or laxray) and then when he brings out his wealive, use a fighting type or a strong fighting type move to defeat it...
