Uade, do me a favor and visit the TASVideos site, please. (tasvideos.org) I think I can safely say that the vast majority of competitive TASers are part of the community there. They have some pretty solid standards and rules they keep, and I think they're pretty well entitled to make them. Try reading the "About" page; you may be surprised at what it says.
Now, is it just me, or does that sound like they don't care about "technical WR's" for TASing a game? Because I would think that they would care about every improvement, high-quality or not, if they wanted to track WR's. But no, that's not what they're trying to do. That's because the goal of TAS is to get as close to perfection as possible, with a secondary goal of entertainment--NOT to just be a little faster than everyone else.
Also, take a good look around the site and tell me how often you come across the phrase "World Record." I have been told that it has been (unofficially) applied to Super Mario 64 TASes because of how heated the competition is there, but do you see it on all those games with little competition? Because I sure don't. So even if you don't agree with the rule about poor-quality improvements, you have to concede that this major community of competitive TASers are not labeling their runs as "WR's" if there isn't sufficient competition. And isn't that exactly what we've been trying to tell you all along--that MKW TASing doesn't have enough competition to warrant "WR" labels?
Of course, you are free to have your own opinion...I'm just saying that if you're going to bring "serious" or "competitive" TASers into this, you'll find that they actually have rather different rules. And if you're TASing "just for fun," then that means you don't care about being #1 anyway and probably wouldn't label your runs as "WR's" in the first place.
Tasvideos doesn't care about world records. They don't accept runs just because they are world records. Contrary to what you think, entertainment isn't really a secondary goal. It's the primary one. They will gladly accept runs that are far from optimal (within reason; major, and obvious mistakes would obviously not be accepted, and it is a requirement for ALL speedruns to be a world record in order be published), so long as they are still entertaining. However, it doesn't matter how good a run is, if it's not entertaining, they will not accept it.
As far as usage of the term WR...it's used all the time by members of tasvideos. Not for full runs, but for things exactly like this. Single level tases. It's used quite often for single levels of mario 64, mario sunshine, sa2b, and others.
Tasvideos is just one tasing community. It has its own rules which are designed for its own purposes, which is collecting videos of entertaining tases. You can't really apply tasvideo's standards to something with an completely different purpose.

Speed definitely does not take a backseat to entertainment among the publications on TASVideos. There are some published TASes that use sub-optimal characters, or just throw the goal of speed out the window in favor of messing around and showing off glitches and tricks, but they go into side categories. In a typical TAS run, the TASer will add in as much entertainment as possible while still progressing as fast as possible, but he will not give up the main goal of speed to maximize entertainment. There are some rare minor exceptions, but the vast majority of speedruns will stick to the fastest route possible. Entertainment is more of a minimum requirement, as in, "The run has to be at least this entertaining, or we won't publish it because no one would want to watch it." In most cases, the game itself is what determines whether or not this requirement is met, and it is generally assumed that a straight-up speedrun of a reputable game will still be entertaining enough regardless of the route taken. And even if a dramatic route change is discovered which results in a much shorter but less entertaining run, it will usually still be published in place of the older run, as long as the minimum of entertainment is there. (Compare the "Glitched" Chrono Trigger TASes for an example of this.)

Those are comparatively active categories among TASers, are they not? Again, it comes down to whether or not there is sufficient competition to warrant the label. Trying to apply such a tag in a category where there's little or no competition for you would just reek of, "Hey, look at me! I'm somebody important; pay attention to me!" That's why the players who are trying to apply the tag to MKW TASes have drawn so much backlash from the community.

I already addressed the part about focusing on "entertaining" TASes. But even if you don't want to accept the stance of TASVideos (which is the biggest TASing community I know of, and certainly should know a thing or two about etiquette), you have to acknowledge that, no matter the community, there is always a common goal among TASers of demonstrating theoretical perfection as nearly as possible--NOT just to be faster than everyone else in the "tool assisted" category.
Why are you guys fighting over this? People have the right to do what they want, such as call it a TAS World Record. It may be right to do so, it may not. Arguing is not going to solve the issue, the arguers will make a reply to argue against the other, hence an endless loop. Just shut up and stop arguing over a 3 year old's game.
Also, please update the links to my TAS runs to my new channel, MalleoTrollin. And I want to redo the Maple Treeway TAS so I will not upload that.
Regarding the TAS World Record thing... I inherited this thread while that was the title. I didn't think it mattered whatsoever so I didn't bother asking for the mods to change it. If people want it changed, then I could make it say "TAS Records" instead lol?

Yes, I know you had nothing to do with the title; that's why I didn't bother mentioning it before. I didn't feel that it was worth making a scene about, but since someone was already doing that, I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.
As far as keeping peace in this thread is concerned, I will say this much: I have never once seen anyone complain about Ltx or MKDasher's videos because their titles didn't include the phrase "World Record." If you leave the title as it is, I would not be surprised to see more complaints down the road, but if you change the title, I am quite certain that there will be no more arguments on the subject.
Oh my god guys, let Troy decide what he wants to do. It's his post, not yours. If it was your post you could do as you please. But it isn't. So stop arguing.

And that's also why when I moved my TAS videos to my other channel I did not use TAS World Record in the title, to avoid all the unnecessary drama that people are causing.
