I've seen singles and doubles ladders for this game, but they make me wonder as to how fair they are; the items are completely screwed up for 2 and 4 player games (clouds mostly) and anyone who is even remotely good at getting a starting boost will almost always win. So, let's amp it up a bit and get some serious competition going.
8 player races are probably the best you can get in MKWii for judging skill; items are less abundant but still play a pretty vital role (especially with teamwork), there aren't clouds in 2nd and the fastest team will almost invariably win (except on BS tracks like LC, but I'll get to that).
So, that brings us to this; the Qlympics, named just because I said so.
How this will work: you make a team of 4 (and ONLY 4; make sure you don't have too many prior commitments at good race times); these teams can be clan based, region based, city based (for our American and certain Euro players) or completely random, but they should be comprised of the best players possible.
Competition will begin once we have a good lineup (16 teams min, 32 optimal), then we can start trading FCs (and I might throw up a quick Freewebs thing just because I can, and also because it doesn't have 10000 character limits on posts).
The rules for the actual tournament itself are as follows:
-
Double Elimination format (lose once and you go to the Losers Bracket; lose again and you're out)
- 4 vs 4 at
ALL TIMES; disconnects = GP restart. Three d/c's in a row = new host; if the same player keeps d/c'ing, they must call in a substitute.
- Track selection will be given before each round; out of the 8 tracks I give, you must pick at least four different ones (repeats are fine). Violation of this rule = a
30 point penalty per violation.
-
5 GPs are to be played per round, however not necessarily all at once. Winner is based on
cumulative score over these 5 GPs. The host's team
must join last.
- Voice chat is recommended.
- If absolutely necessary, substitutions can be made, but they must be nominated
at least a day before the race starts *and* the substituted player must
give ample reason for not being able to make the race.
- Race times and dates are to be
organised privately to ensure the optimal time for competition.
- Photos of scores
are a necessity and they may be either PM'd to me or posted in this thread.
Please put SPOILER tags around them for everyone's sake.
- Rounds last one week; I'd suggest starting organisation of dates before the round starts if you know who your opponent is already.
- Have fun and play to the best of your ability.
Seeding will be based off the opinions of the top players on MKWii.com.
IRC Chat (or a Chatango if I can't organise one) will be available.

Enjoy the tournament!
