MK Community: A run-down of the mario kart wii community - Written by Violet.

How can you make a history?
To be honest, it'll be very hard to make a chronicle of the community since a lot of things have happened and I quite frankly have forgotten! However, from this point on I will try and chronicle as much as what goes on in the community

Pre-2009 events / moments in the community

- Clan Forum Directory is made; Clans through Bash can now communicate more easily
- GTT is created in May 2008
- Masters League / Pro Lounge is in succession from April 2008 and quite healthy in bringing competitive action to players. Was important before the boom of clans.
- Hacking became more notorious around September time ; hacking now a big issue in the community where new rules will need to be created.
- WCL is created in October 2008 and the first season finished January 2009; the WCL is currently the biggest event in the community.

2009

- WCL almost cancelled due to the amount of hacking accusations, however thankfully it is still continuing
- A rising of national Mario kart teams - there have been a few already national teams such as team USA and team Japan :)
- Violet steps down as GTT organizer, while Dean (from Average Joes) begins to take over (late January)
- ICE*, one of the most notorious clans on the forum, disbands

MK Community: Major Tournaments: World Clan League - Written by Bash.

What is the WCL?
The WCL is the largest Mario Kart Wii clan league tournament in the world, currently consisting of 13 divisions (or 78 teams) from North/South America, Europe, Asia and Australasia.

How is the WCL a vital tournament?
Most of the established and succesful clans in the world participate in the WCL, along with the best players in the world.

How does the WCL benefit clans, Why should I join?
The WCL benefits clans for several reasons. The main reason is that clans have a competitive and challenging league to climb and are guaranteed a war every week against a clan of similar ability.

Full details about the WCL can be found on the website found here.

MK Community: Major Tournaments: The Grand Team Tournament - Written by Violet.

What is the GTT?
The GTT is an on-going tournament founded by Morgrif and technologically supplied by Demian. Violet used to run the GTT from around Augustish 2008 - January 2009. Currently, Dean has taken main control of the GTT; future development of the GTT lies with him :). The way that the GTT works is that clans sign up for GTT events. A clan does not need to play in every event. Once you have signed up, then you are put into a room of up to 3 other different clans, and a host is decided based on volenteering. The GTT works with 3 player teams, each voting random, for 2 GPs.

There is a rating table done after each event with a rating system designed by Demian. Helena is the bot in which all teams are formatted in the Helena database.

How is the GTT a vital tournament?
The GTT is a vital tournament in that it has been long-standing since May. There have been over 50 individual GTT events, and it is currently stable in terms of continuation. I also personally believe that the GTT helps the community as all teams and clans of all skill levels can actively participate in this, without the need to go to every event. The GTT is fun! There's bound to be chaos with the random and 4 different teams playing at the same time :).

How does the GTT benefit clans, Why should I join?
If you have a small clan, or wish to inject some regular activity into your clan, then signing up for the GTT is great. You only need 3 people to play in the GTT, and you don't have to play in every event. The GTT runs on wednesdays and Saturday so there's plenty of oppotunity for some well needed fun and activity.

It is also easy to sign up to the GTT, you just need to give Dean a Team name and Team Password and then read the GTT thread as to how to use Helena and when to be around for the GTT.

To read more on the GTT, visit the thread here: http://www.mariokartwii.com/f27/gtt-...ent-31558.html

Did you know ?: There are huge setbacks to competitive play of Mario Kart Wii. One of the most recent and quite epidemic setbacks is that of hacking. Due to the wide range of resources available, and easy to contain, it is a lot easier to cheat in Mario kart Wii. Hacking affects everything in mario kart wii; from clan matches to time trials. The earliest incident of hacking in a major tournament that I recall is of Lund using a bullet bill and star hack in the GTT, recorded by Bash. The most shocking development is of Jimray of the formally known Lightning Invitational Team (now disbanded) hacking for an extended period of time for his clan in very important community tournaments (WCL). Considering that Jimray was a respected member of the community, it just shows that how anybody can use hacking, even when you don't suspect it.

I wouldn't worry about hacking that much though; the majourity of the community tend to avoid subtle hacking, or if they do wish to hack, do it so blatantly and not in important matches that it's actually quite hilarious to watch.

Famous hackers include: Mr.Bean and the 4TL (for the lulz) clan, YoshiFart, ARM9, Blitzkreig, Hobo, Hacrrrrrr, Pickle fucr
