Did you know ?: There has been no guide yet completed by another person that informs the community as to how to be successful without sandbagging (eg pure front-running) meaning that more and more clans are beginning to sandbag due to the resources available.

Did you know ?: When the community first started to do clan wars they were very much based on the preferences of the individual clans in question. Nowdays things are a lot different - clan wars organized between each clan are are seen to concern the clans in question rather than the community as a whole (note: the decline of the clan percentages topic), as tournaments fulfil that role. Clan wars have become so standardized in the community that the emporium has become one of the first official attempts of trying to explain the formula of clan dealings.

The average war or friendly consists of either a 5v5 or a 6v6, votes no repeats, 3 GPs, a lenient disconnection rule. The 5v5 concept was made popular via the WCL. The WCL has been so influencial on clan wars that many clans refer to the WCL rules for their disconnection rule.

MK Community: So what is the community? How do we work? - Written by Violet.

uhhhhh, Community??
An online community, for me, is basically a large amount of people whom dedicate themselves to a certain subject or hobby. For me, There is such a large amount o people whom play Mario Kart wii competitively and co-operatively that it is appropriate to say that there is a mario kart wii specific community. A fandom however is based more on the series itself than of specific games, so I would call this forum and the clans of mario kart wii a community moreso than a fandom.

So how does this community function?
Basically a community works by management amongst itself. If Nintendo did everything for us, then we would not see the diversity of tournaments and clans as we do today. We also wouldn't see as much as the arguing and bickering, but there's always some sort of drama within a community.

From my perspective, and hopefully I'll be able to gather other people's perspectives on this community, we rely on trust a lot. We rely on our fellow members to host tournaments successfully, we rely on our clan mates to be there for scheduled matches, we rely on one person to host a clean 12 person man room and to sort out hundreds upon hundreds of friend-codes with each individual clan match. We also trust each other to not exploit our own-goverened rules. If you cannot trust people within this community, then the community will begin to crumble (albeit if Mario kart Wii doesn't fade or a new Mario kart comes out)

What else is there to this community?
To boil it down, here are some essentials to the Mario Kart Wii community:

Mariokartwii.com: This very forum is the hub-ub for the community, the focal point for clans to come together and to discuss how to war with each other etc. Around 80% of Mario kart wii clans base themselves on this forum with a thread within the clan zone, or even make a thread to let people know of their existence. Without this forum, then a new outlet would have to be created for all clans and tournaments to run from.

Clan Zone: An obvious part of the community, but still, the majourity of activity within the site and within the community is in the clan zone. The clan zone allows clans to interact with each other, set up clan wars, check on the competition so to say. It would also be fair to say that clans are very interested in how other clans do, I personally enjoy hanging around other clan chatrooms and threads just to see how people are doing.

Tournaments: Tournaments are what spice up the usual clan war and clan business. Tournaments vary from longstanding tournaments such as the WCL and GTT (see specific tournament posts for more information) to one-off clan tournaments such as the WWCS (world wide clan survival) and more Free-For-All tournaments such as the marathon tourney, Masters club/Pro lounge, and wacky tournaments such as the Luigi Nightmare and CCL.

These are the main aspects to the Mario kart wii community. If any one of these were missing it would cause some serious upsets.
