I will add to the work load and the first post of your clan thread.
This in my opinion is the most important thing you can do initially to a clan. Your clan thread says who you are. Your clan thread pretty much defines that first impression people make of you. So why not put some work into it? There are so many clans that have crappy threads. It is a mess. Or it isn't organized at all. These clans rarely ever last.
I've said it before and I'll continue to say it. A clan will go as far as the work you put into it. If you only put 1 small paragraph into it, then that is all you are going to get out of it. If you dont put the work in, you wont get anything out of it. It will just in reality waste your time.
It's not impossible to start from scratch, for the insane quick growth of Cx (my clan) i could explain a bit a bout it
I started Cx off on my own after my old Clan European Goldies Died, as others were all ready trying out for other clans, I at first was like, this is going to fail, But for some reason many of my friends joined my clan, and it kept getting bigger and bigger (the part where you say get to be known, As former ICE* and EG* im pretty known here)
After a few wars We got our veteran status (wich we got with 10 wars while 20 were required, after 20 days)
As of today we have a good War record, A good filled member list with VERY loyal members, and are in a big tourney like the WCL (div9)
That was the story of my clan :) , hope you guys can get a tip or 2 out of it
and for the first post, you should add @ recruitment, Search for loyal members who will stick with you, nobody needs clan hoppers (reason most clans die)
