Chapter Two
“Hi, Wigglytuff!” Joe said in a fake extremely happy tone. Stars flew and a wigglytuff did appear.
“And of course, you’ll be using...” Rick was cut off by the motion of Joe’s arm swinging and the pokeball flying. Out came a Chatot.
“... Chatot.” Rich finished in a not-so-enthusiastic tone.
Rick got right back up and started the battle. “Doubleslap!” The balloon pokemon ran up to Chatot, hands swinging behind. When close to the bird, there was a blur of pink as Wigglytuff threw his right arm forward. It was a hit, the colorful feathers flying around as Chatot shook off the paralysis, which was swinging back at him in the form of a small pink arm.
“Peck!” The moment seemed to freeze. Chatot flew up off the ground an inch or so, turned his head, and put his beak forward, making contact with the attacking hand. Rick blinked and looked again, thinking what just occurred couldn’t have happened. “Chatter!” Joe instructed his battler, almost laughing as it said what Joe had trained it to, “Ha ha haha ha, you are confused now!” in a way that was a short song. Wigglytuff stood still, frowning, crossed its eyes, and slapped itself in the face. “Mimic!” Chatot, flew up to the confused Wigglytuff and pulled back a wing, preparing the double-slap used by the pink warrior earlier. “Sing, Wigglytuff!” A few notes came out, but they were out of tune and sounded bad. Rick moaned.
As the rainbow bird was about to hit Wigglytuff’s cheek, the attack was changed with another single word, the one most recently said. “Sing.” Right in front of Wigglytuff, Chatot started to send beautiful notes from his beak. Wigglytuff shook his head, the confusion had just about worn off. “Bounce up and avoid listening, Wigglytuff!” Rick yelled, desperate, afraid that the battle was about to end, not in his favor.
It was too late. Rick’s pokemon had its eyes closed and started leaning back. It fell, sound asleep. Chatot stopped singing. Joe looked up, straight at Rick. It was clear that the battle had ended.
Wigglytuff half-opened one eye, and smiled.
It all happened in a flash. Wigglytuff was up and confronted Chatot, knocking him to the floor. They both got up, and stood in battle stance, though there was no way they could continue fighting.
“That’s enough, Wigglytuff.”
“It’s over, Chatot.”
Rick held up a pokeball and his pokemon returned to it. Joe didn’t do the same. “What are you doing, Krow?” his curious friend asked.
“The weather is really bad, and the clouds are so heavy that it’s foggy. A defog will be nice.” Joe turned to face Chatot, who was listening for orders. “Fly up over the clouds and Defog. That okay?” Chatot nodded and went straight up. “Now we watch,” Joe sighed.
A few minutes later, the bird came falling down, trying to get to the ground as quickly as it could. The facial expression on it proved it had been quite frightened. Joe looked up. There was a tiny hole in the sea of clouds where the bird had fallen through. There was no blue sky, though.
It was pitch black.
