yea, i thinkt hats what he means. anyway
to do this, make sure you have the layer dialogue box open. Adn then click on the layer you want to "grain merge" then go to the drop down box, where it says layer mode (i think, haven't sued gimp for a long time) and select grain merge

Haha, ok.
Well, once you have everything you need (correct layers, etc.) follow this:
1. Go to dialogs.
2. Click the layers dialog.
3. once there, select the layer you want to add grain merge to.
4. in the drop down menu at the top of the layers dialog, scroll down until you find grain merge.
