Introduction:
Hai, I'm Phantom Toad and I main Olimar in SSBB. I'm quite good with him and have beaten alot of pro's with him. So here is my guide on how to use him. Good luck!
Note: I use the Wiimote sideways, so the control scheme will be different depending on what controller you use.
Who is he?
For those of you who don't know Olimar, he is a veteran space pilot working for the Hocotate delivery company in the games Pikmin 1 and 2.
In Pikmin 1, he crashes on an unknown planet and befriends the Pikmin species who help him find his missing ship pieces so he can rebuild his ship, the S.S. Dolphin and get back home and in return, he must help them repopulate their near extinct species and help them fend for themselves against the planets predators.
In Pikmin 2, he finds out his company is in debt, so he travels back to the planet and uses the Pikmin to help him find treasure so they can pay off the debt.
They are both very good games, I would recomend them to anybody.
OK, so let's get onto the guide, first, we will start off with...
Jumping:
Olimar is fairly decent a jumping, although he is not great at it since he only does the standard double jump.
Strength:
Olimar is surprisngly strong, despite what he looks like since he samsh attacks can send people flying off the stage. However, this is thanks to his Pikmin, which we will come on to later in this guide.
Speed:
Like his jumping, his running abiltiy is fairly average, so there isn't much to say about it really.
Weight:
As you would expect, he is quite light so he is rather easy to knock off the stage.
That's the general parts covered, now we have a in depth look at his moves.
Special moves:
Pikmin Pluck (Standard 1):
This move is used so Olimar can pluck Pikmin from the ground and use them to throw at his enemies or use them for his smash attacks. He can have 6 Pikmin with him at one time.
Pikmin throw (Side 1):
This move throws any Pikmin Olimar has on him on his enemy so they can latch on and cause damage, the purple Pikmin will not latch on to the enemy but they will hit them hard with their weight.
The Pikmin can cause different damage depending on their types, here is a list:
Red Pikmin: Causes 2% damage each time it second it is on the enemy, it's attack is fire based and can survive fire based attacks.
Blue Pikmin:
Causes 2% damage each time it second it is on the enemy, can survive in water.
Yellow Pikmin:
Causes 2% damage each time it second it is on the enemy, it's attack is electric based, can survive eletric attacks.
White Pikmin:
Causes 6% damage each time it second it is on the enemy, has a dark/poison based attack.
Purple Pikmin:
Do not latch onto enemy, cause 6% damage of they hit, knocks the enemy slightly.
Pikmin chain (Up 1):
Olimar's recovery move is rather lackluster, it's better if you have 6 Pikmin while doing it and can be used as an attack, the Pikmin on the end of the chain can change the damage recieved. (For example, if a yellow Pikmin was on the end, the attack would be electric based.)
Pikmin whistle (Down 1):
This is used for calling Pikmin back to you if they are far away from you, can also be used to chagne the order of the Pikmin that are following you.
Final Smash (End of Day):
Olimar gathers his Pikmin and takes to the stars as he blasts off from the stage and the planets nocturnal wildlife turn active, attacking everyone on the stage. Then, as night clears and dawn arrives, Olimar crash-lands back onto the stage causing massive damage and knocking everyone off the stage.
Basic Moves:
Standard attack:
Nothing spectatcular, Olimar just whacks the foe with his head two times, causing 10% damage. Can cause the foe to trip.
Standard air attack:
This is a nice attack, Olimar spins around in the air causing 12% damage if each spin hits and knocks the opponent away.
Crouch standard:
Headbutts the foe, causes 6% damage usually but can cause 8% damage if the tip of his space helmet hits aswell.
Side air attack:
Olimar grabs a Pikmin and uses to hit his foe while in the air, the Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage, does around 12-14% damage.
Up air attack:
Olimar uses a Pikmin to hit his opponent multiple times in the air, the Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage, does around 12-14% damage.
Down air attack:
An infamous meteor smash, very useful for KO'ing the opponent. The Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage.
Side air attack (2):
Like the side air attack but hits opponents behind him, the Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage and often causes 12 - 14% damage.
Grab:
Olimar uses a Pikmin to grab his foe and throw them. Throwing them upwards causes around 9-12% damage and throwing them downwards and sideways causes around 9-13% damage.
Smash Attacks:
Side smash:
Olimar uses a Pikmin to bash the foe, a fully charges smash causes around 12-25% damage, the Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage.
Up smash:
Olimar uses a Pikmin to bash the foe upwards, a fully charges smash causes around 12-25% damage, the Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage.
Down smash:
Olimar uses a Pikmin to bash the foe from either side of him, a fully charges smash causes around 12-25% damage, the Pikmin he uses can depend on the attack type and damage.
