Yes indeed but maybe our mathematical theories and models don't apply for the universe. The research of the universe has just began so who knows what surprises there may still lay ahead of us. It's all just too unpredictable and big that I don't think we'll ever find out how large the universe is (or even make a good guess).

A fish cannot swim through the river in its entirety if it is infinite.

There's already the model of the 2D sphere curved in 3D space, which assumes no boundaries, although finite matter.

This, although, is not confirmed, and that's the biggest problem atm, lack of technology, all researches indicate the universe is flat BUT can be distorted which takes us back to the 4D diagram, meaning 3D is curved on 4D, so to speak.

In ancient times, we thought the world was flat aswell. As most things later to be found, it's been proven to point towards a cyclical pattern.

And since all is relative, why wouldn't our universe share this same characteristic?

true. the universe is never ending. i do belive life(any life) is out there. it is highly unlikely we will find it. like a needle in a gigantic haystack.

Why not?

You should look at it as an expansion of metrics, it's still finite. Which remains possible the fact that the fish will eventually go through 'all' of it.

EDIT: What I mean is that, you could go around a circle and complete it. The circle, however, is infinite in... size (lack of a better word).

All this talk about how the universe is insanely huge and and theories regarding its size and confusing things that it can create is interesting. I now remember how I once considered a career in the pursuit of extrateresstrial life, but my love for art outweighed my eagerness to find life on other planets.

And for the people who believe that aliens cannot exist because the bible does not mention them at all, I believe that aliens were considered animals at the time of the universe's creation and and have disappeared from the earth somehow after the parts of the bible that have already happened (which is everything except Revalations). The aliens then jouneyed to the far reaches of the universe, infinitley escaping our detection, an thus I conclude that it is almost impossible for us to find them.

You can't complete it.
The trail will never end. Meaning you can't get to the end.

The traveler (matter) of the trail (space) however will complete a lap, so to speak.

So I say again: finite space in infinite time (curvature for the example I provided above).

Expansion of metrics, means what? Does that mean that if the universe is expanding, then it must have a finite size? Cos you can't really expand infinite, infinite is just infinite. So that would mean that the universe is finite, but infinitely expanding, theoretically...

I'm confusing myself, cos this is doing my head in... >_<

Hmm, that theory is a bit.. out there. To say that all extraterrestrial actually originated from the Earth, but then migrated to other planets. But you're also implying that this has to do with creationism; that the Earth was created and that these aliens being considered "animals" implies that man was created as a central being in the universe by god or w/e, again assuming that the Earth is the origin of all life in the universe.

Why is it not possible that life can originate from other planets entirely? The main reason life can flourish on the Earth is because of the climate and it's relative located to our sun. Conditions are favorable, thus lifeforms can survive on this planet as oppose to hostile environments such as Saturn or something.

So it's entirely possible that there are innumerable other planets out there with conditions that are somewhat, or even moreso favorable than the Earth where life can also develop.
