Before posting a thread. Before you post a new thread, do a search to make sure the same thread hasn't been posted yet. Roughly a third of all new threads with questions have already been answered multiple times before. Setting up a race/tournament, exchanging friend codes and joining a clan.
Setting up a race or battle.
We have a entire subforum designated for setting up a race or battle with others. All you have to do is post a thread in the Create/Find an Online Game subforum. Be sure to specify the time when you want to race, and which friend code the other players have to add. If you join someone else's race/battle, don't forget to post your friend code. Setting up a tournament.
If you want to set up a tournament to see who the best Mario Kart Wii player is, then please take the time to read Thino's great sticky How to run a successful tournament v0.5 <-Link. It contains all the information you need to make a succesfull tournament.
When joining a tournament, make sure you read the rules carefully before signing up. This will prevent confusion and discussion afterwards when there has been an incident. The Tournament subforum can be found here <-Link.
Exchanging friend codes.
The Create/Find an Online Game subforum is also meant for friend exchange. You can make a thread in there asking for people to exchange your friend code with, or post in someone else's thread. Don't forget to post your friend code! Also, it is useful if you add a little bit more information about your skill level (like how many stars you have, or what you Versus Rating/Battle Rating is).

Q: I can't find opponents online! It keeps showing 'searching for opponents' but none are found. A: This is probably the fault of Nintendo's servers. You can try to restart your router and make a new connection but it probably won't work. You just have to be patient.
Q: How come some people are able to dodge a blue shell? A: There are numerous ways to avoid a blue shell. The easiest way is to enter a cannon when the blue shell is about to hit. Cannons can be found on DK Mountain, Maple Treeway, Rainbow Road, DK's Jungle Parkway and DK's Snowboard cross.
Another way is by using a mushroom. Use the mushroom right when the blue shell is about to hit.
Q: I raced some guy who had infinite items (blue shells, bullet bill, etc.) or a VR that was over 9999. How can he do that?? A: You probably faced a hacker who used an infinite items cheat, giving him infinite items to use. Other hackers are able to get their VR over 9999 by cheats.
Q: I was racing online and this guy falls of the track but immediately reappeared on track again. How is that possible? If I fall of the track, I loose some seconds. A: This is because of lag. It appears as if the racer falls of the track, but he actually doesn't. It's just the game that 'thinks' he fell of, but it later readjusts itself to the new position of the racer.
Q: How do I dodge a Pow block?

Strategy One
This is the most efficient way of avoiding the POW Block. You know the game warns you that it's coming by showing 'POW' above your head followed by 3 booms? Brace yourself on the first two, because on the third, you will get spun off the ground drop your items and lose a lot of speed. To counter it, think that the third boom is the tip of a ramp - you need to thrust the wheel upwards as if you doing a trick off a ramp. This will cause one spin in mid-air, you dropping your item (if holding one), but you will keep your speed and carry on going.
Strategy Two
This one is by luck really. If you can get in mid-air (E.g, going up a ramp falling off a ledge onto a different part of the track) bythe time the third boom sounds, the POW won't reach you and you will keep your if held item.
Q: I downloaded a hacked ghost, but now they aren't on the charts anymore it won't let me download the real WR! Help? A: You have to delete it from your ghost data list. Mario Kart Channel > Downloaded Ghost Data and delete from there. Then you can download the WR ghost.
Q: How do I get a star next to my name online? A: To get a star next to your name, you have to have atleast 1 star ranking on all the cups in single player mode. This also includes mirror cup. If you want 2 stars next to your name, you'll have to get atleast 2 star ranking on every cup. Same for 3 stars.
Q: I can't seem to get 3 star ranking. Anything useful I should know? A: There's a great sticky to help you get those star ranks in no time: Slic's triple star guide <-Link.
Q: I unlock vehicles but can't see/use them A: The vehicles are linked to a weight class. Some vehicles are only available for lightweights, while others can only be used be medium- or heavyweights. Try using a character from a different weightclass to see other vehicles.
Q: How do I get one of those licenses I see in people's sig on this site? A: Go to this site (link), make a license and then paste it in your signature by using the 'User CP' button in the top left corner of your screen.
Q: Can you level my license up? A: No! And don't try to make a thread for that purpose!

Terms
Front Runner: Someone who goes for first in a clan war.
Hacker: One who uses modified item data and/or speed to aid them whilst racing, because apparently they find it fun.
Item blocking: Holding a shell/banana peel behind you for defense against other items.
Item Rape: When a player is struck by consecutive items, causing them to lose several places in a race. A track where this is common is known as an Item Rape Course.
Lag: 1. In computing and especially computer networks, lag is a term used where the computer freezes and then continues some time later when an action is performed. 2. In Mario Kart Wii, a slowdown in the online service that results in delayed reactions to events, including people falling off the cliff then reappearing, and green shells "passing through" people.
Sandbagging: Intentionally slowing down in hope of getting good items to take the lead.
Snaking: The process of performing consecutive miniturbos on a strait piece of track to gain speed.
Spam: 1. Choosing the same course in an online race consecutive times. 2. Using wheelies or an item like a Golden Mushroom as fast a possible.

To customize your profile, you have to go to your User CP. Click on the 'My Account' button located at the top right corner of you screen, next to the 'Log Out' button. It looks something like this:
If you click on it, you can see the various options on the left side of the screen, including:
Edit Your Details
From here you can edit your user profile. Here you can enter optional information. Any information entered here will be viewable by other members of Mario Kart Wii Forums. You can enter your information which will be put in your profile, you can also enter additional information for your profile. How to add a profile video is explained at the bottom of this post. When you're done, hit the "Save Changes" button.
From the "Edit Avatar" page, you can choose an avatar. You can pick a pre-defined standard avatar, or upload one of your own. At the top of the "Edit Avatar" subcategory screen, you will see your current avatar. If you do not want an avatar, select "Do not use an avatar".
If you wish to upload your own avatar, then scroll down to where you find the upload option. Hit "Browse", then find the file for it. Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 200 by 200 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
Edit Signature
Here you can edit your signature. Your signature is a message or messages that everyone can view after you post.The "preview" sub-section is the current signature you are using. You can also upload images, much like how it's done with avatars. There are certain rules to what you can and can not use as coding which will be shown in the picture below.
"Edit Email & Password" should be the first subcategory from your control panel.From here you can change your password or update your e-mail address. Make sure to hit "Save Changes" when you're done.
Here you can use "Invisible mode" which will make you not show up on the "Currently Active Users" list. Or you can make your vCard downloadable. If you allow your vCard to be downloaded, then your e-mail address will be viewable to any members of the forums that download the vCard. You can also can edit your messaging and notification information. I reccomend that you keep Private Messaging on at all times. Also, you can edit your thread display options. All of the options will probably start out as the forum defaults. You can edit your time and date options aswell.
It's easy. Go to 'user CP' in the upper right corner, and then click 'Edit your Details'. There on the bottom, you find 3 youtube boxes. In the first one, you have to enter the youtube ID. This is the code after the '=' in the url of the youtube video.
So for example, if you have

then the ID is 3a5oejiGyAg.
In the next box, you can add a title. In the last box, if you put the number 1, the youtube video will automatically load once someone goes on your profile.
