In the game, you follow a life form from a small organism, evolving into land creatures, building civilizations, and eventually exploring the galaxy, throughout several different phases. It is very open ended; users create the creatures and guide them as they evolve, making many choices throughout the course of time. If you're interested, read up about it on Wikipedia.
